Children’s Kiva Montessori Charter School will be implementing a revision to our Covid-19 Health and Safety Plan in which we welcome and encourage masks wearing by adults and children, but now provide families and staff with the option to continue to wear them.

The option to wear a mask will begin on Monday, April 11th.
We will continue the following safety measures:

  • Daily screening at home
  • Screening upon entry to the school
  • Voluntary serial testing on Tuesdays
  • Cohorting by grade level when indoors (Lower El stays together, Upper El is together).
  • Increased hand washing routines
  • UV treated air in the HVAC (heat and air)
  • Require families to keep children at home who are sick

This decision was made by carefully weighing data from the family survey, local case data for Montezuma County from state and federal sources, data from Southwest Memorial Hospital, and input from local doctors. The school administration and its Return to Learn Health and Safety Committee  will continue to monitor local case data and may adjust the policy again if conditions warrant.
This does not mean that Covid-19 is gone.  It is not.  And, we recognize that there are students and families with high risk for severe disease.  As such, we still recommend mask wearing as a primary defense against the spread of respiratory infection.
